A Case Study of Mobile Voice over Internet Potocol

This paper proposes and implements a cost effective mobile communication within the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) campus and its annexes using the wireless mobile voice over internet protocol (mVoIP) technology. By taking advantage of UNILORIN‟s newly deployed gigabit optical fiber, serving as backhaul for the pre-existing Wi-Fi network, a
new campus Network and Architecture suitable for relaying voice and other multimedia services was designed. The designed network architecture incorporates VoIP infrastructure built to provide capabilities and features such as Interactive Voice Response IVR, Call Recording, Voice Mail, Audio and Video Conferencing. Wireless site survey and
auditing was carried out, in order to determine best locations for new access points to ensure redundant coverage to support seamless roaming. Finally, a customized softphone application (named '4us') for end users‟ fixed and mobile devices with Wi-Fi capability was developed. The software grants access to services that disseminates campus daily news, instant messaging and other integrated programs.
